Minimalism from a Biblical Point of View —

Biblical Minimalism is "a complete, whole-person release of anything unlike Jesus, a letting go of everything that hinders us from following Him wholeheartedly and single-mindedly, and a relinquishing of all that brings us under bondage to this earthly, very temporary life." Cheryl E. Smith

"Why You Should Stop Trying to Conform to the Molds of other Minimalists" at No Sidebar

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."  Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

God's plans and path for each one of us is personal and unique.  He does not require or expect us to try to contort ourselves to fit into the mold of anyone else.  He created us all as individuals, and He has a blueprint for each one of our lives.  Finding and walking in our true identity in Him brings abiding peace.

  1. I love these points!! And I whole-heartedly agree! I feel like the Lord has been working on me for awhile to get me to be less 'materialistic' and get my focus more on the important things and spiritual things rather than material things. And if I compare my journey to others' . . . I can get discouraged thinking I haven't made much progress. But I know I have! And I'm grateful that the journey continues and the progress continues! Great article my friend.

    1. Thank you so much for your encouraging words and support, dear friend! I am so thankful you shared how God has been leading you. It is surely a process, and I am so thankful we don't have to answer to anyone but Him, and He is a patient, long-suffering Lord. So thankful for your sweet visit and kind words! God bless you abundantly!

  2. Cheryl, you continue to amaze me with your gift of writing, encouragement, and Godly wisdom. The principle to not compare ourselves is one we should all learn, it definitely breeds discontentment. You are a blessing to me sweet friend. Have a wonderful weekend!

  3. The lessons outlined in this post can be applied to all areas of our lives; not just the minimalist segment. We should realize that we are the person we are and not compare ourselves to anyone else. Excellent suggestions dear friend.

    1. That is a wonderful point, my friend. I was thinking about that the other day that these lessons from the Lord could apply to any other area of life, too. He is so faithful to take His Word and apply it to our lives in the way that we most need to hear it. I was so thankful to see your sweet comment and trust all is well with you. Praying for you and trusting God to bless you!
