We are hoping to downsize to move nearer to family and in preparation we have been paring down, purging, selling and donating possessions, some that I have had for over 45 years! It is memories for me but I have found that taking a photo of the item before it goes helps with that. Also my daughter in law was thrilled with some of the "vintage" china which bonged to my Mum and the "retro" children's hardback books which were mine and now has them on a display on her own house. Whilst I mention photos please make sure to label yours so that when it is time for someone to go through them they know who they are looking at and if they are important family history as my Dad was a keen amateur photographer and developed in his own photos but when I came to sort through my parents belongings I had no idea who people were!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5560071409252252448.post-34027198458013177832022-04-01T06:30:24.648-07:002022-04-01T06:30:24.648-07:00Nancy, thank you so much for your sweet words of e...Nancy, thank you so much for your sweet words of encouragement! We are discovering the ...Such wisdom here, Cheryl. We are discovering the same truths as retirees whose priorities are changing. Heading #6 is on my mind as well: What we hold onto affects someone other than ourselves." I did some paring down of our belongings early in the summer; need to do more! You are right: it helps to look at belongings through the eyes of our children, not through the rose-colored glasses of memories! My spirit would also benefit from paring down the clutter of people-pleasing, prideful thoughts, self-centered actions, etc! Indeed, less of self so there is more room for Jesus! www.nancyaruegg.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13060173405144735663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5560071409252252448.post-83739822443111117352021-06-27T22:28:12.234-07:002021-06-27T22:28:12.234-07:00Thank you SO much for your kind comment! I know you are facing this extremely challenging life-transition, and I trust the Lord will guide your every step and give you the fortitude to let go of all that encumbers you. It is all just fuel for the fire, as I used to hear a preacher say. At the end of the day what matters is you will be in the home of your loving daughter who will care for you and your husband. Hopefully, those precious moments together will ease the pain of all you are losing to make this happen. I am praying for you and send much love to you, my friend.Cherylhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01891257905649460436noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5560071409252252448.post-17440917650665021412021-06-09T10:09:31.076-07:002021-06-09T10:09:31.076-07:00Bless your heart, I am so sorry to hear of the los...Bless your heart, I am so sorry to hear of the loss of both of your parents - and so close together. Our next transition is upon us very soon: downsizing from an entire home to one room at our daughter's house may be happening by the end of this month! So much letting go again! But God truly is so faithful to speak to us thru every surrender, and to show us how He has brought such redemption thru this process.
